Monique Safford: Irony and Ambiguity

Photographer and conceptual artist Monique Safford juxtaposed the romantic with the mundane in her work, incorporating literary passages with images of the landscape outside her downtown Los Angeles loft.

"It's about looking out your window and wanting to be somewhere else," Safford says in "Young Turks." "It has to do with that ambiguity of always wanting to be elsewhere, instead of where you are."

Such ironic romanticism still infuses her work, which she has shown throughout the United States and Europe.

Safford lives in New York City with her husband.
